A number of great books are available for families of children adopted from Vietnam. Here are a few recommendations for both parents and children of books on Vietnam adoption, Vietnamese culture, adoption, and adoptive parenting.

Vietnamese Holidays and Folktale Books

Children enjoy Vietnamese holiday books such as Ten Mice for Tet! by Pegi Deitz Shea and Surprise Moon by Caroline Hatton. One of the loveliest and most complete books of Vietnamese folk tales for children is Children of the Dragon by Sherry Garland. Adults also enjoy Vietnamese folk stores from Two Cakes Fit for a King by Nguyen Nguyet Cam and Dana Sachs.

Two of the better children's books on Vietnam and Vietnamese culture are Vietnam (First Reports) by Sarah De Capua and A Child's Day in a Vietnamese City

. On the topic of diversity ,Children Just Like Me by Anabel and Barnabas Kindersley is a perennial favorite about chidren in various countries.

Vietnam Adoption Books

Several books are available specifically on Vietnam adoption. One of the best books for older children and waiting adults is the lovely hardcover book When You Were Born in Vietnam by Therese and William Bartlett. For young children, Heart of Mine by Dan Hojer and Lotta Hojer portrays a sweet but simple story of adoption. Bringing Our Angel Home by Tracy S. Pillow, Finding Katherine by Dr. Ellen Fitzenrider and Danielle, Where Are You? by Cindy Roberts are first hand personal stories of Vietnam adoptions.

In the fiction category, Dana Sach' If You Lived Here: A Novel is an rather engrossing novel in which adoption from Vietnam plays a pivotal role. (Many adoptive parents have also enjoyed Dana Sachs' earlier book, The House on Dream Street, which provides the enchanting story of her stay in Vietnam.)

Children's Adoption Books

A popular books for young children about cross cultural adoption is A Mother for Choco by Keiko Kasza. Choco is a little bird who is searching for a mother, when he finds one to love him she does not look just like he does! Other more recent books for younger adopted children include My Family is Forever by Nancy Carson and We See the Moon By Carrie A. Kitze (thinking about birth parents).

Adoptive Parenting Books

There are a number of book resources for adoptive parents on many different topics. LifeBooks : Creating a Treasure for the Adopted Child by Beth O'Malley is an easy to read guide to creating a Life Book for your child. Toddler Adoption By Mary Hopkins-Best is a detailed resource for first time parents adopting children 1-3 years old. Parenting Your Older Adopted Child By Brenda McCreight, Our Own By Trish Maskew, Parenting the Hurt Child by Gregory Keck and Regina Kupecky, and Attaching in Adoption By Deborah D. Gray are all excellent resources for parents adopting older children.
